36 donates $10,000 to St. Vincent’s pediatric occupational therapy.
St. Vincent Health and Lake County boast having the only Pediatric Occupational Therapy service in the central mountain region. This service was opened in 2021. Medical providers from Lake, Chaffee, Eagle, and Summit Counties – and beyond, refer their patients to St. Vincent Health and Occupational Therapist, Rachel Griffin, OTD, OTR/L, ATP.
Rachel is known for her care and treatment of children with conditions like attention deficit disorder, autism, traumatic brain injury, seizures, cerebral palsy, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and more. She helps children who experience deficits in fine and gross motor skills, visual perception, social skills, and activities of daily living.
On the surface treatment may look like play therapy, but it is so much more. Every activity a child participates in is measured and planned by Rachel for a specific outcome. For instance a child who tends to become agitated may play with a body sock – which helps them to learn to self-calm. A child with motor skills deficit may crawl or roll through a fabric tunnel. And children with core strength and balancing issue might play on a slide or swing.
The donation will be used for creating a bigger therapy room at St. Vincent. The new pediatric occupational therapy room will be completed in 2023.
