Pediatric OT helps the Gallegos family
Just a few months ago, Alyssa Gallegos started sending her four-year-old son, Cameron, to St. Vincent Health for Pediatric Occupational Therapy, which focuses on helping children develop the skills they need to grow into functional, independent adults.
Cameron’s therapy focuses on setting boundaries, helping him to make eye contact and keeping him focused on tasks at hand. Cameron also does breathing exercises to help with his asthma.
“Cameron is always excited to go to St. Vincent because the staff is so friendly and helpful,” Alyssa says. “I remember one time he really enjoyed ‘scaring’ the staff with a jack-in-the-box. And he can’t wait to see Miss Rachel each time.”
Miss Rachel (left) is Rachel Griffin (OTD, OTR/L, ATP), a doctor of occupational therapy at St. Vincent Health, where she provides both outpatient and inpatient therapy services for all ages. Pediatric occupational therapy can benefit many children, from premature infants to kids with ADHD or learning and physical disabilities.
“The whole staff is great!” Alyssa says. “I’ve really seen an improvement in Cameron’s communication skills and attention span. He’s much quicker in regaining his focus and his thoughts are more organized. I would highly recommend the program at St. Vincent Pediatric Occupational Therapy and really appreciate Rachel. She’s helped us tremendously and really helped me gain a better understanding of who my son is!”
