Sanami Fotrall's journey into occupational therapy was inspired by a deeply personal experience. As a child, she watched her brother relearn everyday tasks after losing his dominant hand in an accident. Seeing the challenges he faced without occupational therapy inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to helping people regain function, confidence, and independence during some of life's most difficult moments.

At St. Vincent Health, Sanami provides occupational therapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings, helping patients safely recover after illness or injury, rebuild strength and fine motor skills, and return to the activities, work, and hobbies that bring meaning to their lives. She also provides pediatric occupational therapy, giving families in the Leadville area access to specialized care close to home while helping children build developmental skills through engaging, play-based therapy.

Originally born in Nagasaki City, Japan, Sanami moved to Iowa as a child. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota, taught English in Asia, and later received her occupational therapy degree from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania.

She was drawn to Leadville by its resilient community, collaborative healthcare environment, and access to Colorado's mountains. Sanami believes occupational therapy is essential in rural communities because it helps people receive high-quality rehabilitation without traveling long distances, supports seniors in aging safely at home, and enables local workers to return to physically demanding jobs. Her patient-centered philosophy emphasizes partnering with each individual to achieve goals that improve long-term quality of life. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, skiing, trail running, volunteering animal shelters/rescues, and exploring Colorado's outdoors.
