Finding Relief with Pain Management
Pain Management Awareness and Physiatry at St. Vincent Health

September is Pain Management Awareness Month, a time to highlight the many resources available to those living with acute or chronic pain. At St. Vincent Health, we recognize how deeply pain can affect your quality of life—from limiting mobility to impacting work, hobbies, and time with loved ones. That’s why we’re committed to offering innovative, non-invasive solutions that help patients find relief and restore function.
One of the most powerful but lesser-known specialties in this field is Physiatry (also known as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation). Unlike surgery or long-term reliance on medications, Physiatry focuses on the whole person and provides comprehensive, non-surgical options for musculoskeletal and orthopedic concerns. Whether you’re dealing with back pain, sports injuries, joint discomfort, or recovery after illness or injury, Physiatrists use a variety of tools—such as therapeutic exercise, targeted injections, imaging guidance, and coordinated rehabilitation plans—to help patients return to the activities they love.
St. Vincent Health is proud to offer clinic and procedure days with Sonja Stilp, MD, a visiting Physiatrist who brings specialized expertise in non-invasive orthopedic care. Dr. Stilp is dedicated to helping patients reduce pain, restore movement, and improve overall quality of life. She calls her patient-centered approach “Active Healing and Active Wellness.” Her treatment plans are tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals.
“My goal is to assist people to live healthy and active lives – No matter what their lifestyle, age, or fitness level,” Sonja Stilp, MD.
During Pain Management Awareness Month, we encourage our community to explore the benefits of Physiatry and learn more about how non-invasive care can make a difference. If you or a loved one is struggling with pain that’s affecting your daily life, Dr. Stilp and the team at St. Vincent Health are here to help.
Appointments with Dr. Stilp are available at St. Vincent Health. Call 719-486-0230 to schedule and take the first step toward living with less pain.
