Alexandra (Allie) Kovar, MD, is a fellowship-trained Minimally Invasive Foregut Surgeon and general surgeon who is excited to bring advanced surgical care to the Leadville community through St. Vincent Health.

Dr. Kovar has a special interest in conditions affecting the esophagus and upper gastrointestinal tract, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hiatal hernias, esophageal motility disorders, and obesity. Her fellowship training provides her with a specialized skill set that is often available only in larger cities, and she is passionate about bringing that level of care to rural mountain communities.

She also provides comprehensive general surgery services, including care for gallbladder disease, colon cancer, appendicitis, abdominal wall and inguinal hernias, and other common surgical conditions.

Dr. Kovar believes access to gastroenterology and general surgery should not depend on where someone lives. Procedures such as colonoscopy can help detect and prevent colorectal cancer, which is increasingly affecting younger adults, while upper endoscopy can help evaluate conditions ranging from GERD and H. pylori infection to ulcer disease, celiac disease, abdominal pain, and difficulty swallowing. Providing these services close to home means patients can receive essential care without having to travel far from the communities they call home.

As a minimally invasive surgeon, Dr. Kovar focuses on providing the highest level of care while using the smallest incisions possible with today’s technology. Her goal is to help patients experience less pain and downtime and get back to the activities they love as quickly as possible.

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Kovar enjoys an active Colorado lifestyle with her Goldendoodle, Frankie. She loves trail running, pickleball, and going to the gym. She is currently taking golf lessons and learning to play mahjong. She is especially looking forward to exploring Leadville, meeting her new neighbors, and becoming part of the community.
