St. Vincent Health

Looking toward the future, St. Vincent General Hospital District has embraced the concept of a health campus where specialists, primary care, Lake County Public Health Agency, and other health-related offices reside in the old hospital building and synergistically complement services in the adjacent, new hospital facility.

Rehabilitation, Encouragement & Compassionate Care

Getting Back on Your Feet at St. Vincent Health

After stroke, injury, illness or surgery, rehabilitation is often essential. This is when a person might turn to Swing Bed care also known as inpatient rehabilitation. It’s a funny name—but basically means a person “swings” from acute care to rehab care in an inpatient setting.

Inpatient rehabilitation/swing bed is available in Leadville at St. Vincent Health. It is helpful when a person does not have help at home; or their environment presents physical challenges, such as a flight of stairs or icy walkways.

At St. Vincent Health swing bed patients receive the same care as they would in a skilled nursing facility (SNF). Typically, a swing bed patient has been hospitalized, no longer needs the same level of care, but isn’t quite ready to go home. The care team at St. Vincent Health helps them to reach their maximum capacity for independent living. Depending on their condition a patient might need a variety of therapies including: physical, occupational, respiratory, speech therapies and more, including medication therapy.

Equally important, a swing bed patient receives emotional support and encouragement to help process the stress that goes along with recovery from a serious health issue. With encouragement and assistance from skilled staff, patients improve mobility and regain confidence and the ability to perform activities of daily living.

Inpatient rehabilitation/swing bed, is accepted under Medicare Part A and Medicaid. It is recommended that anyone interested in swing bed for themselves, a friend or a family member, contact the case manager at St. Vincent Health in Leadville by calling 719-486-7155.
