Steve Mercado truly appreciates the eight years of quality care that St. Vincent Health provided his father, Sal, who passed away in April 2020 at age 81.
“My father suffered a stroke in December 2012,” Steve explains. “Even though he lost most of his ability to speak, he was still physically and mentally there. Because dad had high blood pressure and high cholesterol as well as diabetes, he frequently came to St. Vincent Health for checkups and scans, sometimes as often as twice a week. From the time he had his stroke to his last visit, the care at St. Vincent Health was excellent.”
“The primary care teams were amazing,” Steve says. “They made my dad feel very comfortable when they first met.”
Steve also has high praise for the rest of his father’s care team, which included (L to R) Teri Martin, R.T. R, M, CT, Imaging Manager; Cris Swanson, MLT, ASCP, Lab Manager; and Annette Barela, Medical Assistant.
Continuing that team’s legacy of superior care is one of the reasons Steve is now serving as Director of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, where he leads a board of six volunteers. “Our mission is to help St. Vincent Health provide the highest level of care for Lake County,” Steve says. “Just like my father had.”
