Easy Screening with SVH Surgery Center
Tom Mahler
Tom Mahler is no stranger to St. Vincent Health’s services; his trusted primary care physician is one of our very own at St. Vincent Family Health Center, Dr. Ryan Sullivan.
“Dr. Sullivan is great. He’s not one of those doctors who’s just in it for the money, he’s in it for the patient care. I feel like he really cares about my health,” Tom stated.
So when Dr. Sullivan recommended Tom get a routine colonoscopy screening with St. Vincent Health Surgery Center, he knew it was the right choice.
The Day of the Procedure
The day of Tom’s procedure was smooth-sailing and fast. “They were ready for me at the time of my appointment, there was no line in the waiting room” he stated.
While the process was fast, board-certified surgeon Dr. Barry Hammaker and his team were also efficient.
“This was direct, personal care. Everybody was very good at explaining everything to me. Any questions I had were answered and I was put at ease,” Tom continued.
Another thing that put Tom at ease was a warm fuzzy blanket to keep him comfortable in pre-op. The blanket kept him warm and calmed his nerves.
“You’re nervous when you’re going through that type of thing,” he stated. “Having a warm blanket truly put me at ease.”
Tom was nervous and apprehensive about waking up nauseous from the anesthesia, as he’s had negative experiences with it in the past. So when he woke up feeling well, he was taken by surprise.
“I was kind of shocked at how I woke up alert and ready to go. No grogginess or whatsoever. It was pretty remarkable,” he said.
Tom is happy to report that everything came back normal with his screening. While he won’t need to return to our surgery center anytime soon, he’s happy to continue seeing Dr. Sullivan to help him tackle any future health concerns.
